Huaraz Trek, Cordillera Blanca, Peru


The most beautiful circuit of the worlds highest tropical mountain range, passing below towering peaks - Huascaran, Alpamayo, Taulliraju, Huandoy, Chacraraju and many others in the glacial canyons of Peru's first mountain National Park and Biosphere reserve. Starts and ends in Huaraz.

Day 1: Huaraz – Cashapampa Village - Camp Llama Corral (3750m)

Our private transport will take us from Huaraz towards Cashapampa village (2900m), the starting point of our trek. Here we meet our crew and donkeys, who will transport our heavy equipment during the whole trek. We begin our trek (5-6 hours) through the beautiful Santa Cruz valley towards our first camp. On the way on enjoy great views of the nearby high Andean peaks. Camp at Llama Corral (3750m). (B, LB, D)

Artesonaju, Cordillera Blanca, PeruDay 2: Lllama Corral - Taullipampa Camp (4250m)

After our first night in the high mountains we continue our trek (4-5 hours) towards our next camp. On the way on we will observe the beautiful lakes known as Ichiccocha and Jatuncocha. Later on and following the side of the Arhuaycocha gorge we will reach the base camp of Mount Alpamayo (5947m). From here we can enjoy great views of the famous Mount Alpamayo and also mounts Artesonraju and Quitaraju. Later on we will continue or walk until we reach our camp at Taullipampa at the base of the beautiful Mount Taulliraju (5830m). (B, LB, D).

Day 3: Taullipampa Artesonraju Glacier Lake

This day from our camp in Taullipampa we will enjoy a beautiful altitude hike to the glacier lake of Arhuaycocha at the base of the high Mount Artesonraju (6025m). Camp. B, LB, D.

Day 4: Taullipampa Punta Union Tuctu Camp (Paria Valley 3900m)

Today we face the hardest stage of the Santa Cruz trek: the Punta Union pass at 4750m. However, the view over Mounts Taulliraju, Artesonraju and Alpamayo, rewards us for all our efforts. After a 4 hour ascent we will deserve a break with an overwhelming panorama. Descending (2-3 hours) to our next camp at Tuctu, perhaps we can see some Condors flying over the Morococha lagoon. Camp. Day 5: Tuctu Huayripampa - Vaqueria Camp - Huaraz

From Tuctu our trek will take us to pass the Huaripampa gorge and valley. On the way we will enjoy spectacular views of the surrounding mountains: Chacraraju, Piramide, etc. After 4 hours of hiking we will arrive to the settlement of Vaqueria where we meet our vehicle which will take us back to the city of Huaraz. During our drive we will reach the Portachuelo pass at 4750m from where we descend to the beautiful Llanganuco Lakes (3860m) and the continuing to Huaraz where we arrive late in the afternoon. SERVICES INCLUDED: all transfers; professional English/Spanish speaking guide, noted meals, complete camping equipment (tents for 2 persons, dining tent, and kitchen tent), and complete food services while on the trek, cook, helpers, horses, horse keepers, first aid kit, and entrance fee.

SERVICES NOT INCLUDED: extras; international and domestic flights; tips, laundry service, additional tours, insurance and airline tickets (where applicable), sleeping bags, hiking boots and other personal gear.

Personal luggage allowance during the trek is 5kg.
