Casa Andina - Suasi Island Lodge

Built with local materials such as stone, adobe and totora reed, the hotel is located in the small private island of Suasi, one of the most beautiful and special islands of the entire Lake Titicaca. The secluded location of this special place of course means it is not that easy to get to, although it can be reached either by boat or via the road along the shore of the lake. However, news just came in that Suasi Island Lodge is now offering fixed departure packages leaving twice a week from Puno.

Nature Interpretation Walk on the Island

Suasi covers an area of 43 hectares containing species of flora and fauna native to the highland plateau, including three species of camelidae and one of "vizcachas" or large hares. Smooth paths cut across the island from north to south.

Canoe Excursion the Titicaca

A one and a half hour ride around the island on Canadian canoes, going through groups of bulrushes and observing various species of lake birds (huallatas, rayadores, piqueros) and several kinds of gulls, in addition to various species of camelidae and large hares. Activity free of charge.

Martha's Cultural Cabin

Martha Giraldo, owner of the island, manages a cultural cabin where travellers can learn about the uniqueness of the ecosystem in the Highland Plateau and Lake Titicaca area, with emphasis on human intervention throughout history in livestock-raising, farming, pottery and textiles. The cabin has two of the most complete libraries on the Highland Plateau.Activity free.

The Island by Night

A walk around the island to gaze at the southern firmament, ending with a bonfire next to the hotel.

Walk to Mount Muyuni

We will leave the island by boat towards the community of Cambria and, after walking around that area, begin the climb to the Muyuni summit to enjoy wonderful views of the lake, the islands and the communities settled on its shores. On the way down, we will stop at the home of Luis, a member of the local community, to try some Andean highland products and see the vegetable gardens and livestock of local families.

Sailing on the Titicaca

We will board a wooden rowing boat and sail on Lake Titicaca with a member of the Ayamara community of Cambria. During the trip we will observe colonies of lake birds, camelidae and large hares.
