There are few archipelagos in the world that are more pictoresque, peaceful and romantic than the San Blas Islands in Panama. The San Blas islands are part of the autonomous Kuna Kingdom, which, although officially part of Panama, has never officially surrendered. It is the only surviving autonomous indigenous kingdom in the Americas.

The Kuna, although not entirely traditional, have preserved their customs and lifestyle - and refused to give up their territory to large scale developers who have long tried to get their hands on their priestine island paradise. Thus, all tourism activity in the islands are entirely managed by the Kuna themselves, who have favoured a low key, sustainable eco-lodge approach. However, lodges are far and few between and a sailing trip of the island is an excellent way to explore not just one or two islands but even further afloat, among the many uninhabited islands that are truly paradisiacal.

This is a vacation for people who love to relax, play in the water, snorkel among the beautiful coral reefs, canoe around the islands where the sialing boat can't go, discover uninhabited, white sand beaches, go fishing and enjoy the supreme beauty of it all. San Blas has rightly been named one of the top sailing destinations in the world.

Now you can experience this island paradise, even if you don't own a yacht. A small fleet of sailing boats is waiting to welcome you aboard and sail away, towards an unforgettable adventure.

Depending on your schedule, itineraries from 4 - 21 days are available on different sized boats. Sailing experience is not necessary as an experienced skipper will accompany you. The skippers are the owners of the boats and they love to share their extensive knowledge of the San Blas Islands, the Kuna people and of living on a yacht. They will show you the best spots to go snorkeling, canoeing or fishing. Besides, they are great cooks and will be preparing delicious, freshly caught seafood for you along the way.

The best time for a sailing trip is during the 'tradewind season' between November and April.

Itineraries

4 Days - Tropical Island Bliss

Though only 4 days long, this tour introduces you to the blissful pleasures of sailing in this 'tropical islandscape' and to the warm and friendly Kuna people. It includes a visit to a Kuna community, as well as stops at two uninhabited islands and another island where a family of Kuna will share a lunch of coco rice and barbecue with us. We will be sailing about 10 hours (depending on conditions), leaving plenty of time for daily snorkeling excursions and canoeing (if your chosen yacht provides one).

7 days - Paradise Escape

The 7 day tour takes the same route as the 4 days tour but visits two more beautiful islands along the way. The pace is much more relaxed than during the 4 days tour leaving more time to get to know the Kuna people and to spend time fishing, canoeing, swimming, snorkeling or simply sunbathing and relaxing.

10 Day Kuna Kingdom Exploration

A complete tour of the San Blas islands from Porvenir to Corazon. On excursion you will see all the interesting places, snorkel the best reefs and have the best seafood the San Blas can offer. For those who are interested we can organize a walk to the Mermaid Fall, which entails a trip upstream along a river. Here we will visit a Kuna cemetery and enjoy the experience of hiking in the rain forest, with its lush vegetation and exotic wildlife. This tour offers an excellent balance between relaxation and adventure and allows you to experience a wide range of activities that San Blas can offer.

14 Day Cruise

This tour is much the same as the 10 day tour, but allowing more time to enjoy the sights, sounds and vibes of this fantastic seascape. There is more time for getting to know the Kuna culture, to go fishing, snorkeling, or swimming, as you wish! The Grand Excursion - 21 Days Of Sensational Sea-Faring Fun

This extended itinerary is for sea-lovers and adventurers: It includes 8 days of discovering the San Blas archipelago, 2 days of sailing to Cartagena in Colombia where you can spend 3 days visiting this beautiful city. The return journey is quicker, thanks to the winds - we take 2 days sailing back and spend 6 more days in another part of San Blas. This tour is only available from April to November due to weather conditions. Consult us for further details.

While the itineraries stay the same, you have a choice of yachts with which you can go on this adventure. Rates vary depending on your chosen yacht. The boats vary in style, size and amenities, but all are very comfortable and under expert stewardship.
