Cerro NegroDay 1: Managua – Leon City Tour – Hiking Cerro Negro - Leon

We will start from your hotel in Managua or at Managua airport (flight arrival in the morning – no later than 09:30am ) and drive to the North. On our way to the historic former capital city of León, we will pass beautiful views of Lake Managua, the breathtaking Momotombo volcano, and much of Nicaragua's agricultural heartland. León is a charming colonial city and one of the country's main cultural hubs. You will learn about its churches, monuments, market and learn its history, including its most famous former resident- Rubén Darío, Father of Nicaraguan poetry, who was born in 1850. In the afternoon, we will begin our trip to Cerro Negro Volcano (Black mountain), which is one of the youngest volcanoes in the world. During the last 8 years its activity left indelible marks on the region. In 1992, lava ash completely covered this historic city, the second largest of Nicaragua. The last eruption was in August 1999, when two new craters were formed. We will hike through the lunar landscape of the volcano, descending its crater and admiring the surrounding landscapes, an unforgettable and exciting experience.

Day 2: Leon – Masaya markets - Catarina – San Juan de Oriente - Masaya National Park Volcano by night –San Fernando Crater & Caves – Granada

After breakfast we will begin the day by driving to the town of Granada. On the way we will stop to visit the city of Masaya. We will have the opportunity to get immersed in the daily life of the Nicaraguan people by visiting the popular Masaya market. Shopping is tremendous here. Then we will continue our trip to the traditional town of Catarina and enjoy the view across Apoyo Lagoon, which is mostly of volcanic origin. At San Juan de Oriente, we will visit a local artisan family and learn how to make pottery. In fact, this town is famous for its marvelous arts and crafts, especially pottery, made with the special clay of the region. In the late afternoon, we will enter the National Park of Masaya Volcano, and marvel at the impressive emanation of crater Santiago. You will learn about the volcanic activity of Central America. We will then start hiking around the non active San Fernando crater which is now covered by dense vegetation and will enjoy the impressive landscape of the region. We will also visit the mysterious bat caves, which are said to lead to the volcanoes core. Here you will be able to observe hundreds of bats and learn about the mysterious legends of these caves. After dark we will observe crater Santiago and might be able to witness reddish lava coming out of the main tunnel. Drive to Granada.

Day 3 : Granada - Canopy Mombacho – Granada City tour - Granada

ziplineAfter breakfast we begin our day with a 4x4 ride to the flanks of the majestic Mombacho Volcano known as 'the guardian of the City'. Before starting the tour we will receive a complete and professional safety briefing so we may enjoy our trip 'on the path of the monkeys' safely. We will begin to glide from one platform to the next over a total of 15 platforms located in the tree tops. During our trip, we will get a glimpse of the forest canopy while at the same time enjoying great panoramic views of surrrounding coffee plantations and having lots of fun. After our Canopy tour we will return to Granada and explore the oldest city in the Americas, which was founded in 1524 by the conquistador Hernández de Cordoba. Once the business and shipping capital for the entire region, today it proudly remains one of the last truly colonial cities: an undiscovered jewel. Here we will have the opportunity to learn more about its history and visit the most important monuments and buildings of the 'casco historico'

Day 4: Granada – Bike riding - Kayaking “Las Isletas” – El Roble Island

After breakfast we will bike around Granada and along the shore of Lake Nicaragua. At Puerto Asese, we will reach our aquatic transportation and begin our kayaking tour by Granada's famous 'Isletas', an archipelago of inhabited islands formed by an ancient volcanic explosion. Enjoy the nature and wildlife of these small islands, where we can observe over 70 species of birds, as well as enjoying impressive views of Mombacho Volcano. At lunch time we will have a B-B-Q on one of the islands, before we continue our trip to our next accommodation, also on an island, located in the great lake Nicaragua. There we will enjoy the local life and the quite environment.

horseback ridingDay 5: Granada – San Juan del Sur – Horseback Riding at rural community – Natural Reserve La Flor - San Juan del Sur

After breakfast we return to the mainland, this time by motorboat, taking a little cruise around the tropical islets. Our driver will meet you and take you south on the Panamerican Highway, until we arrive at the famous port and resort town of San Juan del Sur. Watch the locals go about their business and daily activities. After spending some time in the city, we will head to the countryside and meet our horses. Our tour leads us rural communitiess and countryside. It is a great way to observe local customs. Afterwards we continue our drive along the Pacific coast until we reach La Flor Natural Reserve. This Reserve is not only famous for its tropical dry forest, but also as a nesting site for the sea turtles, which come here from July to December to lay their eggs. Return to San Juan del Sur.

Day 6: San Juan del Sur – Surf Lesson - Free afternoon

After breakfast you’ll receive your first surfing lesson on one of the beaches near San Juan del Sur. In fact, the waves and the surf of the pacific coast of Nicaragua make this sport truly exciting. Return to the hotel. The afternoon is at your disposal for you to enjoy the town or just relax around the swimming pool.

Day 7: Transfer Out

Breakfast. We will pick you up at your hotel and drive you to Managua or to the airport for your next destination.
