Nicaragua on Foot 8 days/7nights

This great hiking adventure can ideally be combined with the Costa Rican hiking trip. Or, you can do either part individually. Pick up is in Rincon del la Vieja.

Santo DomingoDay 1, Sunday: Rincón de la Vieja Peñas Blancas San Jorge Ometepe Island / Charco Verde & Ojo de Agua

We will pick you up at Hotel in Rincon de la Vieja and drive to the border with Nicaragua. After short immigration formalities, we will drive to the little port of San Jorge. From here you will take the ferry and cross the lake. In Moyogalpa, one of the two main towns of the island our local transportation will be waiting for you and drive around the active volcano of Concepcion to visit “Charco Verde”, known for its dark green lake, lush surrounding vegetation, birdlife and howler monkeys. Then we will visit the water spring "Ojo de Agua", where you can take a refreshing dip in its clear waters.
In the afternoon, drive to your hotel located on the slopes of the Maderas
Volcano.

Day 2, Monday: Ometepe Island – San Ramón Waterfall

After breakfast, we will start walking around the Finca El Porvenir to admire the well-known Ometepe's petroglyphs. Then, we will be transferred to the south
region of the slopes of the Maderas to the San Ramón Biological Station. From here we will start hiking through an area with a high biodiversity, in which
thrive diverse plants and where you will be able to observe a large number of mammals such as howler monkeys. After around two hours hiking you will get to
the 50 meters height waterfall. Here you can enjoy a refreshing shower. Return to your accommodation.

MasayaDay 3, Tuesday: Ometepe Island – San Jorge – Mombacho Volcano Nature Reserve– El Tepeyac –Granada

A drive takes us to the port of Moyogalpa for our ferry back to mainland. From there our transportation will bring us up to the Mombacho Volcano Nature Reserve, 1221 meters above sea level. From here we will start our visit through the cloud forest, learning about the endemic vegetation of the area and will hike down through the tropical rainforest and coffee plantations. At a pre-arranged pick up point in Tepeyac at the foot of Mombacho, we will meet our driver and
continue the short drive to the old colonial city Granada and our hotel for the night

MontibeliDay 4, Wednesday: Granada – Masaya Volcano National Park – Chocoyero / El
Brujo Nature Reserve – Montibelli Nature Reserve – Night Tour

Today we will drive to the Volcano Masaya National Park. Arrival at the entrance, we start by taking a look at the at visitors center where we will learn about volcanoes and seismology in Central America. This visit is a great opportunity to discover one of the most impressive active volcanoes in the “Pacific Ring of Fire”.

Here you will have the chance to observe the volcanic emanations of crater Santiago and outstanding landscapes of the area. After ending our tour in Masaya Volcano, we will drive to the 184-acre nature reserve Chocoyero/El Brujo that lies westside of the Masaya volcano, between Granada and Managua. Here, along with your local guide we will explore different paths to observe the different forests of the reserve with lusting flora and fauna. We will be able to admire the two waterfalls of the reserve and watch the colorful green parakeets (Chocoyos) as they return in the evening to their nests.
We will next reach Montibelli Private Nature Reserve, where we will spend the night for accommodation and tour. In this night tour we will walk through the
trails to observe night animals such as bats.

Day 5, Thursday: Montibelli Leon Viejo Nature Reserve Las Pilas/El Hoyo León

After our breakfast we will leave Montibelli and drive to the León. Getting there, we will begin with the visit the old looking Cathedral “La Asuncion”, considered
the largest in Central America and sheltering the remains of Nicaragua’s greatest poet “Ruben Dario”. We will also ascend to the roof of the temple to enjoy
spectacular views of the city. Then we will visit the archive-museum house of Ruben Dario as well as the art museum of Ortiz- Gurdian Foundation which contains an impressive collection of European and Latin American art. As we walk through the city we still can see some of the old revolutionaries murals painted during the civil war. After lunch we will drive to the Pacific coast to Las Peñitas where you can enjoy the beach and admire a beautiful sunset at the end of the day.

Selva NegraDay 6, Friday: Las Peñitas – San Jacinto – Telica Volcano

In the morning we will drive to the San Jacinto hot springs, a unique phenomenon
of this volcanic region where internal vents eject hot gasses, water and mud.
Afterwards, we will the most adventurous hiking of the tour to the Telica active
volcano. Start walking through some farms and corn plantations with your local
guide to get to the slopes of the volcano and continue walking through the sandy
trails filled with rocks and only accessible by foot or horse. After ascending to the
half, you will be able to observe panoramic views of León. Then, almost to the top
of the volcano, you will also have a wonderful panoramic from the “Cordillera de
Los Maribios”. Prepare your tent for camping and get ready to see the sunset and
the incandescence of the lava at night.

Day 7, Saturday: Telica Volcano – Matagalpa – Cerro Arenal Nature Reserve

Before taking down your tent you will walk to one of the highest parts of the volcano to admire the sunrise, where you can have a light picnic breakfast. After descending this volcano, our transportation will be awaiting us at La Quimera, near the highway heading all the way to the mountainous and cooler region of the country. After a good shower in our lodge, located on the Cerro Arenal Nature Reserve, we will get ready to walk into the forest surrounded by ancient trees and coffee plantations. Return to your accommodation for dinner.

Day 8, Sunday: Cerro Arenal Nature Reserve Managua Airport

At a prearranged hour we leave Matagalpa and go to the International Airport of Managua for our flight back home. End of our services.
