Self-Drive and hiking itinerary around Iceland Hiking in Iceland is a unique experience. The itinerary takes you around Iceland, giving you an opportunity to explore some amazing landscapes by car and on foot.

Arrival day: Upon arrival at the airport, a representative will meet you and transfer you to your hotel in Reykjavik (this night's accommodation must be booked separately, it is not included in the package price).

Day 1: The South – þingvellir

Places of interest: þingvellir National Park, 4 – 5 hours hiking in Hengill and Nesjavellir geothermal area.
Driving Distance: approx. 120km
Accommodation: in Gullfoss Geysir area.

Day 2: The South – Inland to the South Coast

Places of interest: Gullfoss waterfall and Geysir hot spring area. Skógarfoss a 60 m waterfall. Dyrhólaey.
Driving Distance: approx. 170km
Accommodation: in Skógar/Vík area

Day 3 and 4: The South to Southeast

Places of interest: Kirkjubæjarklaustur. Skaftafell National Park. You can choose between hiking in Skaftafell short walk for 2 hours, walk Kristínartindar 6 hours or Marsárdalur 8 – 10 hours.
Driving Distance: approx. 170km
Accommodation: two nights in Skaftafell area

Day 5 and 6: The Southeast

Places of interest: The glacial lagoon Jökulsárlón, Vatnajökull glacier. Hiking on the outskirt of the glacier Vatnajökull, 6 – 8 hours hike.
Driving Distance: approx. 160km
Accommodation: in Höfn area for two nights

Day 7 and 8: The East

Places of interest: The magnificent fjords in the East. A walk along the coast/beach of Djúpivogur is a great experience. Hiking in Borgarfjörður Eystri. 4 – 6 hours walk in Stórurð.
Driving Distance: approx. 240km
Accommodation: for two nights in Egilsstaðir area.

Day 9: The North

Places of interest: Fantastic lava field Dimmuborgir. 4 – 5 hours hiking in the Mývatn lake area is ideal. Canyon National Park Ásbyrgi, one of Iceland's most beautiful natural wonders. Dettifoss waterfall.
Driving Distance: approx. 180km
Accommodation: in Mývatn area.

Day 10 and 11: The North

Places of interest: Akureyri. Visit the Botanical garden and the outdoor swimming pool. Hiking to Súlur (1375 meters), 4 – 6 hours. From Súlur there is an absolutely stunning view.
Driving Distance: approx. 90km
Accommodation: in Akureyri area for two nights.

Day 12 and 13: The North,

Places of interest: Skagafjörður, area known for horsebreeding. Turf farm Glaumbær.
Accommodation: in Hvammstangi area.

On your way back to Reykjavik the next morning you should stop by and explore Borgarfjörður, Barnafoss waterfall, Hraunfossar waterfall and Reykholt for historic value.
Driving Distance: approx. 100km
Accommodation: at a hotel or guesthouse of your choice in Reykjavík (optional - not included in rate).

The rooms in Farmhouses, Farm Guesthouses and Country Hotels can be of four different cagetories:

I	These rooms are simple, comfortable and adequate. The beds are made up and rooms cleaned daily. Clean towels are supplied. Guests have access to communal sitting room. Breakfast included.
II	In addition to category I, all rooms have hand basins and are generally of a higher standard and better equipped. Breakfast included.
III	In addition to categories I and II, rooms have private bathroom. These rooms can be in farmhouses, guesthouses and cottages. Breakfast included.
IV	Rooms with private facilities in country hotels. Better equipped with TV, radio and sometimes coffee making facilities. Breakfast included.

All but the Country Hotels may have shared or private facilities. Country Hotels always offer the highest standard and have private facilities.
