cascada1.jpg (8K)This 6,000-hectare park is one of the largest and most beautiful protected cloud forests in Panama. Located near the center of the isthmus, El Cope begins in the Montane forest on the Pacific side of the Continental Divide and continues to the Caribbean side, where the forest is more humid. Some attractions include foothill birds, herpetofauna, "poison arrow" and "golden" frogs. The forests in this park also offer superb sights for bird watchers such as the Golden-olive Woodpecker, Red-fronted Parrotlet, Immaculate Antbird, White-throated Shrike-Tanager and Redheaded Barbet.

Day 1: POSADA DEL CERRO LA VIEJA- COCLE

At 9.00am Pick up at your Panama City hotel for a surface transfer to Posada del Cerro La Vieja, in the forest of Chiguiri Arriba. Enjoy a one-night stay at the Posada del Cerro La Vieja. Discover the new rejuvennating mud bath and enjoy excellent Panamanian cuisine in the remarkable setting of the slope of "La Vieja".

12:30pm Lunch and relaxation at Posada del Cerro La Vieja. Relax in a hammock while overlooking the beautiful mountains of Cocle.

2:45pm Hiking tour to El Tavida Falls at the Mesoamerican Biological Corridor where you will encounter birds, monkeys and beautiful vegetation, local communities and will be able to swim on the natural pool. (two - three hours hike, level III)

7:00pm Dinner. The rest of the evening is spent leisurely observing the natural surroundings of the lodge.

Day 2: COPE NATIONAL PARK

7:00am Wake up and breakfast.

9:00am Depart to Cope National Park by 4 x 4 car. Trek the Park from 5-7 hours. This 6,000 hectare park is one of the largest and most beautiful protected cloud forests in Panama. Box lunch on the field (included). We will stop at a local store to buy water and power energy bars and supplies. Chocolate and water not included on the tour.

We will get to know the culture of the Embera Indians and witness their artisans at work and learn their knowledge of botanical plants. Embera dance and music evokes scenes of a time before the colonization of the Americas. If you wish, you can try the traditional body painting using the "Jagua" fruit. We will also observe a variety of birds found in this area. Walk in the jungle, explore a waterfall and learn from this magical and ancient culture. Spend the night in your own open-air hut, built on stilts above the ground. Listen to the sounds of the jungle as you fall asleep in total darkness.

burbayar.jpg (19K)Experience the Archipelago of Kuna Yala, which is an unforgettable experience. From the kuna forest you can visit the San Blas Islands with your own feet.

Day 1: Panama City / Kuna Forest

Depart after breakfast to the Burbayar Lodge, located in the premontane rainforest of Kuna Yala in the eastern foothills of Panama. This is a place to enjoy nature, walk through the rainforest and experience incredible birding. This afternoon, hike with your local guide through the nature trail, where seventeen trees used by the Kuna Indians for medicinal purposes have been identified. Enjoy a delicious dinner and a comfortable night’s sleep at the Burbayar Lodge.

Day 2: Kuna Trail, the big challenge!

Breakfast early in the morning and departure to the coast of Carti in Kuna Yala, we will start a hiking tour of 22 km approximately. Box lunch included in the field.

Important: The route takes between 6 and 8 hours but it depends on the physical condition of each participant. At the bridge of the Carti river, a boat will be waiting to transfer you to Río Abajo till the San Blas Islands in the Caribbean Sea. From there we will be transferred to Hotel San Blas in the Nalunega Island. Dinner at the lodge.

Day 3: San Blas Island

Explore the reefs- you can rent or bring your own snorkeling gear - or relax in the hammock and enjoy the Kuna community of Nalunega. Tour to a neighboring island where you will swim in crystal clear waters, snorkel the beautiful reefs or just relax in the white sandy beaches. (BLD)

Day 4: Departure to Panama City

Early morning return from San Blas to Panama city.
