Birding to the east allows birders to look for some of Panama's most exotic bird species while staying in the midst of nature.

Day 1: Arrive Panama City

Upon your arrival to Tocumen International Airport a representative will be waiting to assist and transfer you to your hotel, Country Inn & Suites Amador, located on the Amador Causeway. In the area surrounding the hotel more than 40 species of birds have been identified.

Day 2: Burbayar

At 9:00 AM you will be picked up at your Panama City hotel for a 2 ½-hour surface transfer to Burbayar Lodge in the Mesoamerican Biological Corridor. You will stay two nights in this unique family lodge. Hike the trails around the lodge or just relax and enjoy the tropical rainforest. (LD)

Burbayar is in a world-class birdwatching zone and has become one of Panama's top sites for birders. The Burbayar forests are bordering the Nargana Nature Reserve in the Kuna Yala, both part of a natural corridor and buffer zone. This area was designated an important bird area by the Panama Audubon Society. Many endemic species of the AAEs of the Darien lowlands and highlands can also be found there.

Day 3: Burbayar

Burbayar is the ideal place to experience and discover the hidden secrets of the mysterious tropical rainforest. While hiking in the rainforest will have the opportunity to discover the abundance of trees, plants and exotic brightly colored flowers. Visit the refreshing waterfalls that falls into the sound of the jungle below and breathe the fresh air of the tropics. Hike for a few minutes or long hours, going up and down hills, climbing staircase-shaped roots to enjoy the untouched landscape. (BLD)

Day 4: Darien

Early in the morning you will be met by your guide to begin your drive to the Darien Province, home to many diverse ecosystems that are a birders dream. More than 400 species of birds have been identified in this area of the country. Keep your eye out for the Golden-headed Quetzal and the Harpy Eagle Panama's national bird. Lunch will be on the road. Afterwards will we continue to Meteti where we will drive through grassland and forest until Puerto Kimba, where we will take a motorboat to La Palma or Mogue, depending on the tides. Once we arrive in Mogue we will meet our local native host and the leader of the jungle expedition and then we will proceed to the jungle camp at the beautiful and remote Mogue Embera Village, your home for the coming days. Dinner will be in the community. (BLD)

Day 5: Hiking the Harpy Eagle Trail

After breakfast we will hike through a secondary growth forest looking for birds and especially the Harpy Eagle, the national bird of Panama and an endangered species. Our naturalist and Embera guides will lead the walk and after lunch for more birding. Dinner will be in the community. (BLD)

Day 6: Birding the Darien

In the morning after breakfast get ready for the ultimate birding adventure keep your eyes out for species such as the Harpy Eagle, Black-and-white Eagle, Crested Eagle, Ornate hawk-Eagle, Rufous-cheeked Hummingbird and Greenish Puffleg, Rufous-vented Cuckoo, Viridian Dacnis, Barred Puffbird, Dusky-backed Jacamar, Black-crowned Antpitta, Cinereous Becard, One-colored Becard, Black-tipped Cotinga, Sapayoa,Tooth-billed Hummingbird, Wing-banded Antbird, Ochre-breasted Antpitta, Rufous-breasted Antthrush, Bronze-olive Pygmy-tyrant, Varied Solitaire and much more! Day 7: Return to Panama City & Afternoon Birding

Early in the morning you will begin your journey back to Panama City. Check into your hotel and get ready for some last minute birding in the Metropolitan Natural Park or Soberania National Park. (B)

Day 8: Depart Panama

At the appropriate time the tourists will be transferred to the Tocumen International Airport for their flight back home. They will arrive to the airport approximately 2 hours before their departure time. (B)
