The Panama Audubon Society, which does an annual bird count, constantly counts more species of birds in Panama than anywhere else in Central America and more than in all of North America. Panama will captivate and surprise even the most experienced birdwatcher. Featuring, the tropical rainforest with two nights at the Gamboa Rainforest Resort, a hike at Pipeline Road in the Soberania National Park, Barro Colorado Nature Monument and Sierra Llorona Lodge at the Caribbean side.

Day 1: Arrive Panama City

Upon your arrival to the international airport you will be met by a representative and transferred to your hotel in Panama City. Spend the night at a hotel in the city.

Day 2: Rainforest / Gamboa Villas

In the morning after breakfast you will be transferred to Gamboa Villas in the heart of Panama's Soberanía National Park for a hiking and birding tour. Birds such as the Blue Cotingas and Green shrike-Vireos that are normally observed by a glimpsed to the tree tops can be viewed at eye level, and all you have to do is get out of bed and look out the window. Day tour and night at the Gamboa Villas are included on this tour. (B)

Day 3: Pipeline Road

Early in the morning after breakfast depart to Pipeline Road in the Soberania National Park. Pipeline Road is considered one of the best birding spots in the world. More than 300 species were spotted here in a single day during the Audubon Society's Christmas Count. Admire novelty birds such as the Staty-tailed Trogon, Cinnamon Woodpecker, Antbirds, Antthrushes, Antshrikes, Antwrens and the White-whikered. A box lunch is included in the area. Day 4: Barro Colorado Island (except on Monday and Thursday) or EcoCanal / Gamboa

After breakfast, enjoy a guided excursion to Barro Colorado Nature Monument. This is a one-day tour that has been acclaimed by many journalists and scientists as one of the best tours in Panama. BC became an island when the Chagres River Basin was flooded to create Lake Gatun during the construction of the Panama Canal. (B Box Lunch)

Day 5: Sierra Llorona Rain Forest Lodge

After an early breakfast you will be transferred to Sierra Llorona Lodge, a family owned private reserve, located 20 minutes from the city of Colon at 1,000 feet sea level. The vegetation differs in variety and abundance, this is a place to enjoy nature, walk through the rainforest and a bird-rich area near the north end of the Panama Canal. Expect to see up to a dozen kinds of Raptors, Pied Puff Birds, Spot Crowed Barged, Wide Headed Wren and hundreds of different species of birds. Spend the night at Sierra Llorona Lodge. (BLD)

Day 6: Sierra Llorona Lodge/Panama City

This rainforest will expose birdwatchers to species such as the Great Tinamou, Gray Hawk, Barred forest-falcon, Gray-headed Chachalaca, Blue-headed Parrot, Shining Honewycreeper, Palm Tanager, Indigo Bunting and much more. Box lunch is included in this tour. In the afternoon transfer back to Panama City. Spend the night in Panama City. (B Box Lunch)

Day 7: Depart Panama

Transfer to the international airport approximately two hours before your flight's schedule departure time.
