


A trek through the highlands of the Antizana Volcano is a wonderful experience on the high Ecuadorian paramos. With luck, condors can be observed together with other species of birds and beautiful highland flora.
From Quito transport by car to El Tambo on the highlands of Papallacta. From here equipment and luggage is carried by mules and the trek (4 hours) head south-west to the lower plains around the volcano lake. Camp I at 3,800 m. (BL, D).
Early start for the longest (5-6 hours) part of the trek. Some hill climbing is to start later on crossing a luxuriant polilepis forest, then with beautiful views through the day we will continue till we reach our next camp site on Santa Lucia highlands on the north-western side of the Antizana volcano. From here we can enjoy magnificent views of the impressive volcano. There is also a possibility of seeing condors at some time during the day. Camp II at 4,200 m. (B, BL, D)
(6 hours trek). Traversing the moraines near to glaciers of the beautiful volcano we will trek towards the base of the southern peak of Antizana where our camp III is set at 4,500 m, just below of the impressive southern peak. The landscape is spectacular! (B, BL, D)
Trekking towards the shores of Mica lagoon where we will meet our car and then be transported back to Quito. On your way down to the high Antizana plateau watch for condors. (B, BL)
