Leaves Wednesdays and Saturdays to coincide with the market days in Otavalo
On the first day of our tour, early in the morning we we'll travel to the market town of Otavalo where we will visit the famous Otavalo Indian market, known as one of the biggest and colourful market in South America. Then we will continue our journey to visit Cotacachi town, famous for its leather clothes, Cuicocha Lake and San Antonio de Ibarra. Otavalo hotel.
In the morning we will set off from Otavalo towards the Mojanda Lake area located at 3600 meters of altitude. This is a beautiful paramo reserve from where we can enjoy the view of the Cayambe Volcano and also enjoy the view of the small lakes and the flora of the Andes of Ecuador. Then we continue our trip south towards Machachi town where we will stay overnight in a charming hacienda. (B, LB)
In the morning we drive south to visit the Zumbagua highlands, a beautiful Paramo area where we will find the impressive Quilotoa Crater Lake. This is the land of the Ecuadorian na´ve painters. Transport to Baños, a charming town in the upper basin of the Amazonas Rainforest. Hotel accommodations. (B, BL).
After breakfast we'll drive east to enter the amazing cloud forest. We will enjoy a short walk in the cloud forest and admire the "Devil Cauldron" waterfall. In the late afternoon we'll continue our journey to Riobamba for stay overnight in a local hacienda at the foot hills of the impressive Mount Chimborazo (6,310 m), the highest and largest mountain in Ecuador. (Wed/Fri/Sun). On this day, you'll have the opportunity to travel down the famous "Devil's Nose" by train (optional, not included). We'll head for the village of Alausí, enjoying spectacular mountain views on the way. From Alausí we'll travel south to Cuenca, visiting on route the ruins of the Inca fortress of Ingapirca. We'll stay overnight in the enchanting city of Cuenca (B).
The last day begins with an early visit to the beautiful "Las Cajas National Park" and a short city tour of Cuenca. In the afternoon, fly back to Quito. (B), BL).
