The highest concentration of jaguar in the world can be found within the Golden Stream watershed. The estuarine environments support a healthy but threatened population of the West Indian Manatee and many marine species.

Butterflies dart among ancient stones, waterfalls cascade down limestone rock escarpments, and the rivers empty into elaborate cave systems - underworld of the ancient Maya. Huge iguanas sunning themselves along azure blue crystalline rivers, Howler Monkeys screaming in the high jungle canopy, tapir feeding along the edge of a freshwater marsh, are all part of the incredible biodiversity of southern Belize.

Indian Creek Lodge

Indian Creek Luxury Jungle Camp in Southern BelizeIndian Creek Lodge is located near the village of Indian Creek in the Toledo District of southern Belize just off the Southern Highway and directly across from the ancient Maya ruins of Nim Li Punit. The Lodge is approximately 9 miles inland from the coast and 23 mile northeast of Punta Gorda Town. The site is situated on the coastal plain with an incredible view of the Maya Mountains to the north and coastal forests to the south.

This location serves as the main ecotourism hospitality lodge for land based excursions throughout the Toledo District and offers easy access to a variety of surrounding activities including: archaeological sites, local Maya villages, the pristine Golden Stream, the Maya Mountains, and the private, Boden Creek Ecological Reserve, 7,600 acres of beautiful lowland tropical broadleaf forest teeming with an abundance of wildlife.

Lounge at Indian Creek LodgeThe lodge site is located on and around a central hill with 12 cabins scattered along the summit. The main lounge, bar, dining area and gift shop are situated at the base of the hill. The architecture of the grounds reflects that of the ancient Maya with stone walkways, walls and terraces lined with tangled vines and flowering plants. Each cabin has a private verandah with spectacular view of the nearby rainforest and are nestled among trees and tropical gardens. Relax in classic serenity of the British Colonial Style with a local indigenous flair, each unit has private hot water shower bath, ceiling fans and 6 units are air conditioned. Meals and accommodations are of the finest quality and we offer both international and local cuisine.

Charter flights transport guests directly from Belize City International Airport to BLE's private airstrip located a quarter of a mile from Indian Creek Lodge. The flight takes about 50 minutes and flies along the Belize coast paralleling the Barrier Reef to the east and the Maya Mountains to the west. Entering the Toledo District the flight passes over Payne's Creek National Park, the Port Honduras Marine Zone, turns north and follows along the Golden Stream before landing at Indian Creek.

Jungle Camp (1K)

Jungle Camp Luxury Lodge, Southern BelizeDeep within the Boden Creek Ecological Reserve on the lush banks of the spectacular Golden Stream lies Jungle Camp- a sophisticated yet sensitive harmony of natural woods and thatch reflecting the themes of the ancient Maya. Jungle Camp is situated in the heart of the Belizean jungle five miles south of Indian Creek Lodge. The Camp offers a truly one-of-a-kind overnight experience with an expedition down the river and through some of the last remaining undisturbed lowland tropical rainforest left in Central America.

There are no roads, the only way to reach Jungle Camp is with a local Maya Indian guide who will paddle with guests down the gently flowing Golden Stream for the 3 hour canoe trip to the Camp. Jungle Camp is primarily for guests seeking an overnight jungle experience, and who are looking for a truly unique visit into the jungles of southern Belize. Although the accommodations themselves are far from rough the trip to the Camp is a real adventure.

Walkway at Jungle Camp, Toledo, BelizeBlending with the tree canopy Jungle Camp provides lodging in twelve safari style bungalows connected by board walkways that are raised sixteen feet above the forest floor. The units are scattered along the high bank of the river and each has a private verandah with a fantastic view of the Golden Stream and surrounding forest. Each bungalow accommodates two guests, is fully screened on three sides, with large deluxe beds, fresh linen and private tiled hot water shower bath.

Lounge at Jungle CampThe main lodge has a spacious screened lounge, bar, and dining area with a large traditional thatched covered roof. An extensive exterior observation deck stretches out over the river, and is situated among giant fig and ceiba trees. The construction of the camp is in a rustic style of local tree and palm materials and merges into the surrounding forest of greens and shadows.

The camp is literally suspended above the forest floor situated under huge trees, one gets the feeling of being in the lower canopy of the jungle. The forest surrounding the camp is teaming with wildlife- parrots screech through the trees and groups of wild pig and tapir wander the forest floor below. Bird life is everywhere and thick vines, bromeliads and orchids are within an arms reach. At night the jungle comes alive with the sounds of forest insects and nocturnal mammals who are rarely, if ever, seen during the daylight hours.

Bedroom at Jungle Camp, BelizeAs daylight fades the warm halo of lantern-lit raised walkways meanders through the forest from the main lodge to the bungalows. Adventure and personalized service are the hallmark of Jungle Camp. Accommodations are of the highest quality with dining that includes decadent seven course meals of fine cuisine combining classic elegance and local flair, white linen tables and black tie waiters. Guests may choose to dine in the main dining room or have an intimate candlelit diner from the private deck of their bungalow overlooking the Golden Stream.

Jungle Camp is remote and provides the uniqueness of this ecotourism experience. This facility is what sets us apart from all other lodges in Belize and Central America for that matter, as well as, being in the heart of a large protected area.

Guests may spend two or more nights and can explore a variety of surrounding habitats along local trails in an area that is extremely remote, well-protected and teeming with wildlife including howler monkeys, jaguar, tapir and many bird species. Departing Jungle Camp guests continue their canoe expedition down Golden Stream and into the Port Honduras Marine Zone where they are picked up by passenger boat and head out to Belize Island Lodge or back to Punta Gorda Town for transfer to the airstrip or back to the Indian Creek Lodge.
