This tour combines two of the most beautiful destinations of Costa Rica:

Day 1:

You will be picked up at your city hotel and, together with other tourists, you will drive about 3 ½ hours by collective bus (Interbus) to Monteverde. The last 35km are in quite bad condition, so this is a rather bumpy affair. Your room is reserved at Arco Iris Ecolodge** (Standard rooms). The rest of the day is at your leisure. Information on optional tours (not included) is available at the reception desk.

Day 2:

Today you have the option to choose between various excursions either with a guide or on your own. There are the Monteverde Reserve, Santa Elena Reserve, Selvatura or the Skywalk, a system of suspension bridges among the trees, from where you can observe the fauna and flora in the canopy of the jungle. Other than that, there is also a butterfly garden, a snake museum, a hummingbird gallery and a cheese factory in the region of Monteverde. Return to the lodge, overnight.

Day 3:

After breakfast you leave this beautiful cloud forest area. You will be taken to La Fortuna and Arenal Volcano by Jeep. First heading up into the mountains, then through the impressive nature down to Lake Arenal. From here you will cross Lake Arenal by boat. On the other side you will be picked up again and continue on to La Fortuna, where you will stay at Hotel Las Cabañitas***. The rest of the afternoon is at your leisure, and you can relax by the swimming pool. Overnight at Hotel Lomas del Volcan***.

Day 4:

In the morning, you will take part in a guided hike to Arenal National Park. You will explore the safe areas around the volcano with a knowledgable guide. This is a group activitiy which you will share with other visitors. The rest of the afternoon is at your leisure. Overnight at hotel Lomas del Volcán.

Day 5:

On the last day, the morning is still at your leisure, in the early afternoon you will start your trip back to San José by collective bus (Interbus).

You can book a transfer from La Fortuna to Laguna del Lagarto Lodge at an extra charge.

You can book a transfer by collective bus (Interbus) to Monteverde at an extra charge. This transfer will take place in the morning.

Option 3) with beach hotels in Tamarindo

You can book a transfer by collective bus (Interbus) to Tamarindo at no extra charge. This transfer will take place in the morning.

Option 4) with Sámara or Nosara

You can book a transfer by collective bus (Interbus) to Sámara / Carillo or Nosara at an extra charge. This transfer will take place in the morning.

Option 5) with Jacó or Quepos / Manuel Antonio

Instead of returning to San José, you can book a transfer by collective bus (Interbus) to Quepos / Manuel Antonio at no extra charge. This transfer takes place in the morning.

Option 6) with Rincón de la Vieja

Instead of returning to San José, you can book a transfer by collective bus (Interbus) to Hacienda Guachipelín or Rincón de la Vieja Mountain Lodge at an extra charge. This transfer takes place in the morning.

Option 7) with Tambor or Montezuma

Instead of driving back to San José, you can book a collective transfer (Interbus) to Tambor or Montezuma at an extra charge. The driver accompanies the clients to the ferry, where he hands them over their luggage. The ticket for the ferry is included in the price. On the other side the driver for the rest of the journey already waits for the clients and takes over the luggage again. On the ferry, the clients travel on their own. This transfer takes place in the morning.

Option 8) with Puerto Viejo de Limón

Instead of returning to San José, you can book a transfer by collective bus (Interbus) to Puerto Viejo de Talamanca at an extra charge. This transfer takes place in the morning.
