White Water rafting - Pacuare River, Costa RicaThe active rainforest adventure! The Green Paradise is a combination of a 2-day rafting trip on Pacuare River and Selva Bananito Lodge, located on the Atlantic side of Costa Rica. You will be a part of the rainforest for 4 days, far away from civilization and without electricity. This tour is designed for active people, who yearn for a sense of real adventure. Although you will explore remote areas, you will not have to sacrifice a certain level of comfort. Pacuare Lodge offers quite comfortable bungalows with private bathrooms and Selva Bananito Lodge also offers a high standard of accommodation. You will enjoy excellent meals in a romantic setting.

Day 1:

Early in the morning we will pick you up at your hotel and take you east, via Cartago to the village of Paraíso, where you can enjoy a hearty breakfast. After another 1 ½ hours bus ride you will reach Tres Equis, where you will help to load bags and rafts on a truck and continue driving for another 4 km down to the river. After the important safety instructions, you will work as a team with the other participants, in order to paddle the rafts through Class III rapids, each one bigger than the last. Today you will only raft about 1 hour before reaching Pacuare Lodge, which is located on the banks of Pacuare River and completely surrounded by the jungle. You'll have some time to settle into your room, which has a private bathroom and terrace (bungalow), while your guide is preparing some snacks. There is a platform equipped with hammocks, where you will enjoy the light lunch and the sounds of the jungle. The afternoon is at your leisure. You can either relax in this beautiful place, or partake in a jungle hike. Very adventurous guests might like to try the optional canopy tour, which is the ultimate experience here. In the evening you will be surprised about the delicious dinner prepared by the guides. This romantic candlelight dinner takes place in the middle of the jungle, far away from any civilization.

Day 2:

The next day you will wake up to the sound of a hundred different animals. Enjoy a hearty breakfast. After loading the rafts, the adventure on Pacuare River continues as you will soon meet the first real rapid, a class III - VI. If you are still not awake, after this rapid you certainly will be. On your journey down the river, the guide will show you beautiful waterfalls and side rivers, tributaries of the Pacuare, and depending on the time, you will have the chance to slide down in a natural channel, washed out by a river and jump into a deep basin. Your guides will prepare lunch on the riverbank. After approximately 3 ½ hours you will get back to civilization near the village of Siquirres, where you'll help to load the rafts on trucks. You can take a shower and change your wet cloths in changing rooms. After a well-deserved drink, you will be transferred to Bananito. A representative of Selva Bananito Lodge will pick you up take you 15 km by 4-wheel-drive to the lodge down adventurous trails and across rivers. The day ends with a romantic candlelight dinner at the restaurant of the lodge.

Day 3:

Today it's time to explore the impressive rainforest with your local guide. The natural history trail takes about 2 hours and you will be back at the lodge for lunch. Depending on your physical condition, you can choose a longer trip to a waterfall at an extra charge. Hiking to the waterfall and back takes about 6 hours and you will enjoy a box lunch on the way. For those who like an additional adventure, you can upgrade the tour to the waterfall at an extra charge and that you will have to help carrying the equipment. For the rest of the day, you can either relax, observe birds from your terrace and from the restaurant or book another optional activity (at extra charge). Also horses are for rent. Dinner and overnight.

Day 4:

In the morning it's time to drive back to Bananito by 4-wheel-drive, where the collective bus (Interbus) will pick you up for your return journey to San José.

Options & Combinations

You can book additional nights both, at Pacuare Lodge and/or at Selva Bananito Lodge

Option 1) with Tortuguero
Instead of driving back to San José you get out of the collective transfer at Guácimo (Hotel Rio Palmas) or Guápiles (Hotel Suerre), where you book an overnight. You will be picked up the next day to continue your journey with the Tortuguero package. Please note that in this case breakfast is not included in the Tortuguero package on the first day.
Option 2) with hotels on the Caribbean coast
Instead of driving to San José, we can also take you to any beach hotel along the Caribbean coast at no extra cost.
