COSTA RICA QUICKLINKS:

Esquinas Rainforest Lodge, Costa Rica

Esqinas Jungle LodgeThanks to the assistance of the Austrian government and thousands of donors, a large piece of rainforest right next to Piedras Blancas National Park has been bought to protect it against logging. Cutting trees and hunting used to be the only sources of income of the population of La Gamba, a small village near Esquinas Rainforest Lodge. Today, the majority of the population is involved in the tourist project and a biological station helps to educate the people about the diversity of the environment. Esquinas Rainforest Lodge and "The Austrian Rainforest" is an exemplary project for the sustainable, touristic use of the jungle and it's definitely worth supporting the efforts. The Lodge has 10 rustic, but comfortable rooms with private bathroom, ceiling fan and terrace, nestled in a well-tended tropical garden. A small fresh-water swimming pool, a hammock-house and a lagoon can also be found in the garden. The restaurant, bar, reception, lobby, a TV and a small library are located in the main building, an impressive rancho with a palm-leaf roof. You can explore the rainforest on various trails, rent horses or mountainbikes, book one of the excursions to Golfo Dulce, Wilson Botanical Garden or Esquinas river mangroves or just watch birds close to the lodge.
