Langtang Helambu Trek

Helambu trek is a perfect short trek that starts near Kathmandu valley. This trek lies in the Langtang conservation area. Despite being so close to Kathmandu, Helambu region remains relatively unspoilt. Here you can experience the Hyolmo culture of high mountain people.  Green rhododendron and bamboo forests, majestic waterfalls, and snow-capped Himalayas make the trek one of the most diverse treks yet easily accessible from Kathmandu. The great Himalayan scenery at the border with Tibet and monasteries make a trek to the region an engrossing experience. The people living in the highlands of the Langtang region are of Tibetan descent and they still look like Tibetans. The Helambu Trek startd from Sundarijal, an hour's drive from Kathmandu to the north. After about an hour's walk, we enter Shivapuri National Park.  The trek leads along the Chisopani, Kutumsang, Thadepati and Sermathang and ends at Melamchi Pul Bazar in the Helambu region. The route passes through thick mountain forests with great Himalayan views and toward the end of the trip, you will also trek through some beautiful rice terraces and a number of splendid Buddhist monasteries. Thanks to its proximity to Kathmandu the Langtang area is a good choice for those with limited time. In one week to ten days, one can do a great trek through the region. The Himalayan views overall are not quite as spectacular as in the Annapurna or Everest areas, but they remain unforgettably beautiful. In addition, the trails are less crowded and the people are friendly.
