Pick up your car at the airport or downtown office in Temuco. Your destination today will be Pucón, set on the eastern side of Lake Villarrica. This town is a gateway for excursions to Villarica Volcano. It is surrounded by extensive areas of native forests and impressive mountains. It has two black sand beaches, which are popular for swimming and watersports. Nearby one can also go on white-water rafting trips or visit Huerquehue National Park. Overnight in or close to Pucón.
Today you will have time to explore the beautiful natural surroundings of Pucón. Hike in the national parks and reserves, see nearby waterfalls and enjoy a relaxing bath in one of the numerous hot springs. Overnight in or close to Pucón. (B)
Today you will experience the natural contrasts between the Chilean and Argentinean slopes of the Andes. Crossing the mountains at 1,207 m / 3,960 ft, the country side will change dramatically. Green rolling farmland and lush native forests in the Villarrica National Park will be replaced by the dry but very colorful Pampa of the Lanín National Park. The immense 3,747 m / 12,293 ft. high Lanín Volcano will be a constant point of reference during the trip. On the pass you will drive through a spectacular forest of ancient Araucaria trees growing at the base of the volcano. In the afternoon you will reach San Martín de Los Andes situated at 700 m / 2,297 ft. on Lacar Lake. Overnight in the center of San Martín de Los Andes. (B)
Explore the 7 beautiful lakes on the route to Villa La Angostura and pass through 2 national parks, first Lanin and then Nahuel Huapi. The (unpaved) Seven Lake Route will take you to the tranquil village of Villa Angostura; from there you will drive along Nahuel Huapi Lake to your Hotel Overnight in or close to Villa La Angostura. Today you will drive back to Chile over the Cardenal Antonio Samoré pass at an altitude of 1.308 m /4.291 ft above sea level. Here, you will cross from Nahuel Huapi National Park into the Chilean Puyehue National Park. Overnight at or close to Puyehue Lake. (B) Day 6: Puyehue and Surroundings You will have all day to enjoy the beautiful natural surroundings of the Puyehue Lake and National Park. The park offers several attractive hiking trails while your lodge offers exciting additional excursions such as kayaking, fly fishing and horseback riding to “Salto del Moro”. Today will take you around Llanquihue, the third largest lake in South America after a brief journey inland past Lago Rupanco. On
your way to Puerto Varas you can stop and visit the lake front town of Puerto Octay known for its German influences. From there you will continue the voyage towards the charming town of Frutillar acknowledged for its 19th century architecture, famous theater and local museum. After a visit your drive will continue around the lake front where the perfectly coneshaped Osorno Volcano can be continually seen.
