Navarino Island - Tierra del Fuego Wildlife observation

Isla Navarino - Tierra del Fuego, Chile itinerary (1K)

Day 1 - Tue: Punta Arenas – Puerto Williams

Flight to Puerto Williams and on, across famous Cape Horn. After arrival at Puerto Williams airfield transfer to nearby Lakutaia Hotel for check-in and lunch. In the evening you will trek to the summit of "La Bandera Hill", where you will be able to have a spectacular view of Beagle Channel and the city. Returning to Lakutaia, the tour guide will give an informative briefing about the area and its rich history. Dinner. Lodging at Hotel Lakutaia in Puerto Williams. (L,D)

Day 2 Wed: The Darwin Route: Sailing to Wulaia

After breakfast, travel by bus to Puerto Navarino, a Chilean Navy base prior to the founding of Puerto Williams. Today we can see the remains of large concrete houses, some 20 bungalows and a plaque remembering the tragedy of 1859, during which 6 English missionaries died at the hands of the Yagan Indians. We will also visit the Yamana Cemetery. Afterwards we drive along the Charles Darwin Route, passing the places Darwin visited on his famous voyage. We will then sail on the Victory Schooner to Wulaia, a site of exceptional beauty on the northwestern coast of Navarino island, from where Anglican missionary started to work with the Yamana people. Once we disembark in this beautiful place, we climb up the mountain to contemplate the impressive landscape of Hoste island (which inspired Jules Verne's book "The survivors of the Jonathan"), Wollaston islands and Nassau bay. After enjoying a typical Patagonian barbeque for lunch, departure to Puerto Ambarino. In the evening we return to Lakutaia. Dinner. Overnight Hotel Lakutaia in Pto Williams. (B,L,D)

Day 3 Thu: Horseback Riding

Omora Park - Antarctic ecosystem and wildlifeAfter breakfast we start our full day horseback excursion to Cascadas los Bronces. We stop for a good picnic lunch, with panoramic views of the Beagle Channel. Back to Lakutaia. Dinner. Overnight Hotel Lakutaia in Puerto Williams. (Alternative activities may be arranged on request for this day: e.g.: trekking or hiking) (B,P,D)

Day 4 Fri: Omora Park – Punta Arenas

After breakfast a guided tour to the ecological Omora Park is scheduled. The Omora Park has been established as research project and outdoor classroom that allows visitors to gain an appreciation of the ecosystem and wildlife of Antarctica and Tierra del Fuego, by means of an interpretive trail system. The tour is completed with a visit to Kipa Akar, a workshop of Yagan crafts, located in Villa Ukika in Puerto Williams. Transfer to the airport and return flight from Puerto Williams to Punta Arenas.
