The Andean Valleys connecting the Southern Lake District to marvelous Patagonia are true hidden treasures waiting to be revealed. The microclimate characteristic to every valley is different and creates a unique flora and fauna and absolutely surprising views of mountains, rivers and lakes! This itinerary will show you three of these valleys that, despite their proximity, offer completely different cultural and nature experiences.
We will be picked up at the airport in Puerto Montt and then head towards the town of Puerto Vars. There we will follow the coastline of the Llanquihue Lake to the Vicente Perez Rosales National Park and the famous Petrohué waterfalls recognized for their intense emerald color. This picturesque landscape is dominated by the impressive perfectly cone shaped Osorno Volcano and breathtaking scenery. Overnight at the Petrohue Lodge located next to the Todos Los Santos Lake. (D)
After breakfast we will drive south to the beautiful Cochamó Valley where we will get a glimpse as to why this gorge is often referred to as the “Yosemite of the South”. Here we will witness impressive waterfalls, peaceful meadows, ancient trees (over 2500 years of age) and imposing granite walls. We will take some time to enjoy our surroundings as we have a nice picnic lunch. Afterwards we will continue back on the road and arrive to the town of Puelo where we will then take an hour ferry ride across the gorgeous Tagua Tagua Lake. As we reach our hotel accommodations we will enter a large glacial valley characterized by remote landscapes, crystal clear rivers and deep blue lakes that reflect the surrounding mountains. Today we will participate in a medium difficulty hike through part of the 3,000 ha / 7,400 ac Tagua Tagua Park. After a fun and short boat ride form our hotel we will reach the beginning of the trail. From there we will commence our spectacular journey to the Alerces Lagoon where we will be able to enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. After a little rest and lunch we will head back down the path passing several waterfalls, lush native vegetation and even a hanging bridge. It is a day filled with breathtaking natural beauty and the opportunity to get an in-depth feel of southern Chile. Overnight at the Mitico Lodge. (B, BL, D)
We will start the day by driving through the Puelo Valley and into the remoteness of this spiritual place, submerging ourselves into the beautiful surroundings. Our final destination will be the quaint town of Llanada Grande. This stunning location is surrounded by awe inspiring nature and the Puelo River. Here we will have lunch and get an opportunity to learn more about the region. In addition we will get up close look at everyday life in the countryside as we converse with locals, many of which are decedents of the first settlers that came to this very valley. After breakfast we will take the ferry back to Puelo and drive back to Puerto Montt to continue our travels. (B)
