Uyuni Salt Flats, Bolivia

QUICKLINKS

Salar de Uyuni, Bolivia

The trip from San Pedro de Atacama in Chile is a truly magical experience. Beyond San Pedro it is only a short journey to the most amazing salt desert landscape of all - the Salar de Uyuni, across the border in Bolivia. In this itinerary we wxplore the strange, enigmatic scenery of southern Bolivia, the endless expanse of the Salar De Uyuni (3.653 m / 12.000 ft.) with its surreal landscape and surprising diversity of wildlife.

Highlights:
Eduardo Abaroa National Reserve, Laguna Verde, Laguna Colorado, Laguna Blanca, Polques hot springs, geyser Sol de Mañana, flamingos, Salt Lake of Uyuni, Tunupa volcano, Chilguilla, ruins of Pukara, Chiquini, Canaña Island, cave of the Galaxies, San Pedro de Quemez, volcano Ollagüe, Cañapa, Hedionda, Chiakota, Honda and Cachi lagoon, desert of Siloli, Pampa de Dali, volcano Licancabut

Season:
This itinerary can be operated all year round, however, there may be heavy rains between January and April, which can significantly affect road conditions, forcing us to alter the itinerary if necessary.

Weather:
Weather conditions are much like in the altiplano, due to the high elevations it is cooler than in the Atacama. In the 'Bolivian winter' between January and April heavy rains can make roads impassable, fircing us to change itineraries without notice.

Difficulty:
Easy - There is nothing particularly demanding or difficult about this itinerary, except that some places are at high altitude making it generally harder to move around. Not recommended for people with respiratory conditions or heart disease.
