MAYA BELIZE - 4 days/ 3 nights or 5 days/ 4 nights

This package is designed for people who are especially interested in learning more about the past of the Maya Civilization and would like to see the local archeological sites. Spend three nights at Pook's hill and Visit, Xunantunich, Cahal Pech and Caracol, or stay for four nights and add the ATM Cave. The first day of your stay will include a visit to Cahal Pech, the royal acropolis-palace of an elite Maya family during the classic periods, and Xunantunich, Belize's most accessible Maya site of significance. Xunantunich's dominant structure, El Castillo, rises 130 feet above the jungle floor, making the views from the top superb, with forest stretching out all around and the rest of the ancient city mapped out beneath you. Your second full day will be spent at Caracol, which is the largest Maya site in Belize and covers some 35 sq miles, with 36,000 structures marked so far. A day trip to the site takes you up through the rugged back-roads of the Mountain Pine Ridge and deep into the folds of the Maya Mountains. For a magical trip into the Maya underworld, we recommend staying an extra night and going to the ATM Cave, one of the most popular adventure tours in Western Belize. A two mile hike along the Roaring River and through the rainforest of the Tapir Mountain Preserve leads you the entrance of the cave where an experienced guide will take you on a journey into Xibalba (the Maya underworld). Exploring this geologically fascinating cave is a treat all of its own with the chief attraction being the main chamber, which was a Maya ceremonial and burial ground.
