Pook's Hill Lodge is a small, family run lodge in Western Belize. Clustered around a restored Maya residential site in the heart of a 300 acre private rainforest reserve, it serves as a buffer to the 7,000 acre Tapir Mountain Reserve. Pook's Hill Lodge is a secret tip amongst birders, for its excellent location and calm and peaceful ambience. Despite its remote location, Pook's Hill is within 1-2 hours from most major tourism attractions in Western Belize, 40 minutes from Belmopan and 2 hours from Belize City and the coast. Pook's Hill offers a full range of day tours in Western Belize as well as transportation services to or from various destinations throughout the country. The lodge and reserve provide truly unique jungle experiences in a breathtaking natural setting and is a wonderful place for couples or families to relax and enjoy the treasures of Western Belize. All management and operations at Pook's Hill are carried out according to sustainable business practices and we are in the process of completing a responsible tourism certification for the lodge.

Rooms

The lodge currently has 11 private Cabañas. Cabañas have been designed with the Jungle Location in mind and are built with traditional Maya thatch roofing and have stone or wooden floors. All Cabañas are fully screened, have private bathrooms with hot water showers, and ceiling fans. Voltage in the rooms is 110 with American Standard outlets. Nine cabañas (Standard) are arranged around the Maya Plaza and two Bird Walk Cabañas are seperated from the rest of the lodge across a creek and built on stilts 12 feet above the forest floor.

6 with one queen bed and one single bed in each

3 with one queen bed and a set of lounger furniture in each

Bird Walk Cabanas (2):

Each with two queen and one single bed (another single bed can be added), a set of lounger furniture and private bird watching terrace

Other Facilities

• The main building is a large wood and thatch two story complex. The upstairs floor is an open air lounge that is lovely for bird watching and relaxing - the bar is on this floor.
• The bottom floor has the kitchen on one end and the dining room on the other.
• Informal bar offers a range of standard spirits, wines, local beer and sodas
• Restaurant/Dining room where meals are eaten family style
• Outdoor forest terrace, wonderful for nature watching and relaxing
• Internet use for guests is available in the office free of charge

Outdoor Activities

The 300 acre Pook's Hill Nature Reserve offers many options for free outdoor recreation:

• Bird Watching - Pook's Hill is a favorite destination for birding oriented tours
• Hiking on the jungle trails
• Swimming in the Roaring River in various picturesque natural swimming pools
• Inner tubing on the Roaring River
• Night walks in the Jungle
• The Maya Plaza in the center of the lodge has been restored and is a lovely example of a late classic period Maya dwelling
• Guided exploration with one of the lodge's naturalist guides for any of the activities available within Pook's Hill reserve is available to all guests free of charge
• A full range of tours to the main tourism attractions in Western Belize are offered (at extra charge)
