Hiking the GR10 from Luchon to Aulus les Bains

From Luchon to Aulus-les-bains, the GR10 follows ancient passages that were used as a means of communication between the deep valleys. Here, the itinerary follows a rural and forestry trail around the Piedmont villages of Artigue and Melles-en-Comminges and the hamlets of Eylie, Bouche, Aunac and Bidous before rejoining another thermal station, Aulus-les-bains. The walk between Comminges and the Haute Ariège will take you through some remarkable flora : Gispet (widespread grass that thrives on high altitude terrain), rhododendron flowers, blueberries and majestic beach trees that share the forest with fir trees.

Departures every day from the start of June to the end of September,(for departures on a different day consult us). Bookings from two people or more.

Trip Summary

Start:
Day 1 at your accomodation in Luchon.
If you are doing the 4th and 5th section of the GR10, the night in Luchon is offered BB in a hotel (based on two people sharing).

End:
Day 7 in Saint-Girons, or at your accomodation (half board) in Aulus, if you are doing the 6th section. If you are doing the 5th and 6th section of the GR10, the night in Aulus is offered Half Board in a gite.
If you also do the 2nd section of the GR10, spend the night in St Jean Pied de Port, B&B in gite.

By plane: Lourdes-Tarbes airport, Toulouse-Blagnac airport,
By car: From A54 Bordeaux autoroute
By train: Luchon station.

Accommodation
5 nights in communal dormitories in gites (4 nights) or mountain refugees (1 night) and one night in a hotel, all in half-board.

Level of difficulty:
The walks are on good footpaths and trails, the terrain is varied, but often rocky. You need to be used to walking and take regular exercise to enjoy this trip.

Type: Self-guided walking.

Carrying:
You need to carry a small day sack only with a water bottle, camera, picnic and wind jacket. The main luggage will be transported by vehicle between the different accommodations days 2, 4, 5, 6 and 7. The night of day 3, you won't access your main luggage, and will have to carry some clothes and a light-weight sleeping bag or a liner.

Day 1

Allés d’Etigny. Walk in the surrounding countryside to the village of Cazaril-Laspènes, a village with a remarkable church and architecture.
6km, 2h30, +270m, -270m.

Day 2

From Artigue village ascent to the col de la Peyrahitta. Opportunity to climb the Pic de Bacanère, 2193m. After having crossed Cigalères ridge you pass one cabin after another before arriving at the village of Fos.
16km, 8h00, +865m, -1550m.

Day 3

From Fos to the refuge of Araing, the GR10 follows the col d'Auéran that culminates at 2176m altitude. Arrival in Pays du Couserans.
14km, 4h30, +1200m, -225m.

Day 4

This section links Etang d'Araing to Eylie d'en Haut. It crosses the first part of Ariège by passing through a series of small mountain villages, the architecture and ambience are not to be missed.
9km, 4h, +270m, -1230m.

Day 5

FWonderful walk in the heart of Couserans, in Ariège, through old villages with splendid views.
10km, 5h00, +930m, -840m.

Day 6

Today's walk gravitates between the high mountains and the foothills of the Couserans region. You can enjoy a real kaleidoscope of colour and the superb landscapes of the Pyrenees Ariégeoises.br 17km, 6h15m, +811m, -755m.

Day 7

Last walk, beginning from Saint Lizier d'Ustou, that will lead you to the thermal city of Aulus les Bains. End of your walk.
14.5km, 5h00, +870m, -860m.
