Having been met by an English-speaking naturalist guide at Baltra Airport, you will cross the narrow Itabaca Channel to Santa Cruz Island, heading up to a farm in the highlands for a delicious lunch. You will then have the opportunity to explore the area's vegetation and microclimates, as well as pit craters and lava tunnels, and to become acquainted with its endemic forests. At the Tortoise Reserve you will experience the emblematic giant tortoises in their natural habitat, in addition to the abundant bird life of the highlands. Your afternoon will conclude at Galapagos Safari Camp, with a sunset introduction to the connection between surfing and yoga, a smooth yoga flow with exercises on the mats to practice basic positions on the surfboard.
Today's early yoga session will focus on 'drishti and slack-line balance', you will learn to set your intention & focus to achieve balance in life and on your surf board by practicing walking on slack-lines. After breakfast your boat will take you to one of the neighbouring islands: North Seymour, Bartolome, Plazas or Santa Fe. Each island has its own unique natural habitat, and you will be guided through the evolutionary phenomena of your destination. The Galapagos Marine Reserve is the second largest marine reserve in the world, and snorkelling off the boat is a highlight of the trip.
Your yoga practice will focus on 'steering the soul if the surf board' so as to achieve a powerful paddle stroke. Asanas will relate to arm strength and shoulder opening to prepare for the afternoon's beach paddling session. In the morning you will explore the eastern part of the island. At 490m above sea level, Cerro Mesa offers spectacular views and boasts the largest crater on Santa Cruz Island. It is home to a number of endemic plants, as well as seven subspecies of finch and the vermilion flycatcher. After lunch you will visit Garrapatero Beach, where the contrast of mangroves, black lava, white sand and turquoise water, along with its bircllife and flamingo lagoon, is magnificent. Kayaking and mountain biking are optional activities in addition to the paddling practice.
At sunrise your yoga will focus on the 'one breath one motion pop up', to achieve breathing control and optimal performance standing on the board. The rest of the day will allow you to explore a neighbouring island and give you the opportunity to snorkel with sea lions. Your snorkeling experience will close with a meditation session that will help you align your breath with the rhythm of the ocean.
Everything you have learnt during the last days will come together in your surfing class today. After your early yoga session at the camp, you will spend the rest of the day at a wonderful long white sandy beach, rich in wildlife and ideal for swimming and catching a few waves. You will have your instructor and a few assistants taking you through the steps for surfing in small groups while the rest of the team can explore the surrounding are in the company of the naturalist guide.
