Galapagos Safari Camp - Classic Program

Galapagos tortoise

DAY 1: IN SEARCH OF THE GIANT TORTOISE

Having been met by an English-speaking naturalist guide at Baltta Airport, you will cross the narrow Itabaca Channel to Santa Cruz Island, heading up to a farm in the highlands for a delicious lunch. You will then have the opportunity to explore the area's vegetation and microclimates, as well as pit craters and lava tunnels, and to become acquainted with its endemic Scalesia and Guayabillo forests. At the Tortoise Reserve you will experience the emblematic giant tortoises in their natural habitat, in addition to the abundant bird life of the highlands. Your afternoon will conclude at Galapagos Safari Camp, with a sunset cocktail followed by dinner.

DAY 2, 3 and 4: CRUISING TO A NEIGHBOURING ISLAND

After an early wake-up call, a boat will take you to one of the uninhabited neighbouring islands: North Seymour, Bartolome, Santa Fe or South Plaza. Each island has its own unique natural habitat, and you will be guided through the evolutionary phenomena of your destination. The Galapagos Marine Reserve is the second largest marine reserve in the world, and snorkelling off the boat is a highlight of the trip. Alternatively, if you are SCUBA certified, we can replace one or more day trips with diving excursions.

DAY 5: EXPLORING THE EAST

Galapagos Safari Camp LodgeIn the morning you will be driven to the eastern part of the island. At 490m above sea level, Cerro Mesa offers spectacular views and boasts the largest crater on Santa Cruz Island. It is home to a number of endemic plants, as well as seven subspecies of finch and the vermilion flycatcher. After lunch you will visit Garrapatero Beach, where the contrast of mangroves, black lava, white sand and turquoise water, along with its birdlife and flamingo lagoon, is magnificent Kayaking and mountain biking are optional activities.

DAY 6: SCIENCE AND RELAXATION

Take a tour of the Charles Darwin Research Station in the morning, followed by lunch in one of Puerto Ayora's vibrant restaurants. You can spend the rest of the day relaxing at Tortuga Bay, which is a wonderful long white sandy beach. There is a good trail to get there, with some very impressive cacti along the way. At the far end of the bay there is a large, mangrove lagoon, rich in wildlife and ideal for swimming.

DAY 7: SUNRISE WALK AND DEPARTURE

On your last day you can tour Galapagos Safari Camp at leisure or enjoy the sunrise from our viewpoint before your airport transfer.
