Monteverde Cloud ForestMonteverde has become a very popular place to observe wildlife in the cloud forest. North American Quaker families arrived here many years ago, lived a peaceful life and started protecting the beautiful nature. They founded the Monteverde Reserve, which today is one of the most important attractions in Monteverde. Tourism soon became an important source of income for the area which is why tourism infrastructure in Monteverde has seen some respectable developments during the past years. Almost all hotels are owned by Costa Rican families, and that makes Monteverde very special. Within the last years, a lot of new activities have been developed and you can experience the cloud forest in many different ways. You can visit, for example, the Skywalk or the walkways of Selvatura. These are trails through the cloud forest where you walk on suspension bridges and observe the biodiversity in the canopy of the jungle. 3 different and adventurous canopy tours can also be booked at the tour desk of any hotel. However, the Monteverde Reserve and the Santa Elena Reserve are the most beautiful places to visit in this area and you shouldn't miss them. Birdwatching too is excellent in the cloud forest, with over 250 species of birds. The main village of the area is Santa Elena where restaurants, bars and shops can be found. A snake museum, a butterfly garden, a hummingbird gallery and a cheese factory are additional attractions of he area. Monteverde is located between 1400 and 1600 meters above sea level and it can be rather cool at night.View itinerary -- 3 days/ 2 nights |

Corcovado Naturalist TrekThe Corcovado National Park has been described as the Amazon of Costa Rica, with one of the highest levels of biodiversity in the world. It is a wild region with an abundance of rare wildlife, and the last area of primary forest along the Pacific coastline of Central America. The climate is very hot and humid, which enables the forest to grow to heights of 70 meters and provides a habitat for one quarter of all the tree species of Costa Rica in this small area. Corcovado National Park encompasses eight different habitats from mangrove swamps to mountainous forest. It protects over 400 species of birds, 116 amphibians and reptiles and 139 species of mammals. Corcovado is one of the two only places in Costa Rica where you can see the small, severely endangered squirrel monkeys, as well as the beautiful big red scarlet macaws. It is one of the last homes of the harpy eagle. Four species of turtles are laying their eggs on the beaches of Corcovado. Other species present here, are the endangered American Crocodile, tapir and many species of large cats, among them the mighty jaguar. Hiking through Corcovado is a challenging but rewarding experience you will forever remember for its isolated pristine environment brimming with rare wildlife. This 5 day/ 4 night trek is a real adventure. Participants should be in good physical condition. Accommodation will be at the ranger station and at a tent camp. NOTE: The Costa Rica National Park Service is restricting visitor numbers to Corcovado National Park. Thus, if you wish to visit the park you should make arrangements well ahead of time.View itinerary -- 5 days/ 4 nights |
