Eco-travel in Chile is still quite a novel concept and few lodges have really grasped the concept. The lodges featured here vary widely in their standards and claim to sustainability. Some are exquisitely luxurious, yet have taken great care to use local and natural building materials, or at least partially make use of solar power and recycle their grey water. Many invest in local community projects or conservation efforts. Others are more like luxury camps situated in ecologically sensitive areas. These structures can be dismantelled seasonally and thus have very little lasting impact on the environment at all. The lodges, eco-camps and small haciendas offered here vary as much in style as Chile varies in its diversity of habitats.
