campingadventures (8K)

Our Camping adventures vary greatly in style-the only thing they have in common is the fact that accommodation is in a tent rather than in a lodge. There are Sea-Kayaking expeditions where you will explore the reefs and rainforest of Belize, camping in different locations along the way, a wildlife expedition to Manu National Park that allows you to visit areas otherwise completely off-limits to tourists, and some hiking adventures, though most of those are also featured separately on the Hiking/Trekking Page. Completely different is the Tent Camp close to Corcovado National Park, since this is a stationary 'base camp' from where you can explore the many exciting activities of the region. For other type of active adventures where accommodation is at rustic lodges rather than tents, please check the Active Adventure Page.

Camping in Manu

Camping Tours to Manu

Manu National Park was established in 1977 and in recognition of its uniqueness was designated a "World Heritage Site" ten years later. Manu is internationally acclaimed as one of the most biodiverse areas on earth. It is home to over 1000 species of birds, 15,000 species of plants, over 200 species of mammals, and untold numbers of insects, and within its heart remain yet uncontacted peoples. Wildlife aside, however, the journey into the park itself is amazingly spectacular and not to be missed. Access to Manu is normally by road. The two day trip from Cusco to the entrance of the Manu Reserved Zone carries you over the Andes mountains to an elevation of 4000 m, past pre-Inca ruins and down through the cloud forest on the eastern side of the Andes, and finally into lush, lowland rainforest. Roads remain largely unpaved and wind their way precariously past cascading waterfalls, deep gorges, and precipices. Manu is truly a complete experience. We offer several tours to Manu, but probably the most exciting, close to nature experience can be had by joining one of the camping tours to Manu. These are fixed departure small group trips into the reserved zone of Manu. 5, 7 and 9 day itineraries are available.

Hiking and Tekking in the Andes

Hiking and Trekking in the Andes

Trekking in the high Andes, tracing the footsteps of the Inca, remains one of the most exciting adventures to be had in South America. We offer a range of short trekking and camping tours in Ecuador and in Peru, including the Classic Inca Trail and the new alternative route to Machu Picchu, the Salcantay Trek. There are also some hikes in Costa Rica and Panama, though here you'll stay at the ranger's station rather than in tents. These tours are physically quite demanding since they are all at high altitude. Participants should be in excellent health and physical condition.
Please check out the Trekking/Hiking page for details.

Coral Jaguar Expedition

Coral Jaguar Expedition

Our sea to rainforest expedition is, for many, the adventure of a lifetime. On this itinerary, we sail, paddle and snorkel our way along the wild southern Barrier Reef, camp on idyllic tropical islets and explore underwater coral reefs. We then head inland to follow a river through the world renowned Cockscomb Basin Jaguar Reserve. Paddle among dolphins, sea turtles and eagle rays; raise sails to the northeasterly trades and feel the thrill as your kayak skims over the sea with the energy of the wind. And each day on our journey, we snorkel from our kayaks, exploring remote coral reefs where few people ever get to go; marvelling at brilliantly colored tropical fish and fantastic looking marine creatures. At times, we float quietly over sea grass beds with eyes peeled for the queen conch or swim along a reef wall and peer into holes and coral crevices searching for spiny lobster. If we are lucky, there will be plenty of fresh lobster and conch for a seafood feast. At camp, after a delicious dinner, we listen as our Garifuna and Creole guides weave a tapestry of stories from their native Belize. (Expedition style)

Corcovado Tent Camp

Corcovado Tent Camp

Located in the south of Osa Peninsula and on the border to Corcovado National Park, Corcovado Tent Camp is an excellent choice for nature lovers, who want to spend their vacation far away from civilization and combine an exotic beach escape with activities. The Corcovado Tent Camp is neither a hotel nor a resort, but a real tent camp. However it is a very comfortable camp. The spacious tents are built on a wooden platform and a light roof construction offers protection against the heavy rainfalls that might occur sometimes. The tents are fitted with mosquito nets and can be "sealed" with curtains. Each tent has a terrace with 2 chairs and a breathtaking view of the Pacific Ocean. Inside the tent, there are two wooden bed constructions with mattresses. Between the beds, there is some space to store luggage. The Corcovado National Park offers an incredible biodiversity with over 100 different trees on just 1 hectare and also many endemic species of plants and animals. At the tent camp a whole host of activities are on offer: hiking tours to the Corcovado National Park, excursions to Caño Island, swimming, snorkeling, diving, surfing, birdwatching, horseback riding, night walks, dolphin tours and kayaking - should give you plenty to keep you busy!
